"Pee in g'ass...."
July 2007 July 2009
My Mother always told me: "be careful what you wish for...."
I know this is going to come back to haunt me, but I think it is hysterical.
I was wishing that Wyatt would potty train at the same time because the thought of being diaper free is such an amazing, liberating and cheaper way of life! But there is no way that he was ready…or so I thought! Until Teagan starting peeing on the grass…
A couple of my girlfriends were telling me they would potty train their little girls by staying home for three days straight and letting them go diaper free. The thought of staying home with 2 year old twins didn’t excite me, but the diaper free part I could deal with. So whenever we were home I would let Teagan run around without a diaper. Well the other day she needed to pee while we were outside. It seemed totally logical at the time; I would teach her the “squat to pee” method.
Come on ladies! We have all had to do it at some point or another!! I was merely giving her the skills that would be required of her later in life. She was quite thrilled with herself over her new found ability to squat to pee outside in the grass. Well, Wyatt saw. Now Wyatt wants to pee on the grass too!
Today we were getting out of the pool, I took off both of their swim diapers and Teagan tells me: “My pee pee on g’ass”. So she runs over and squats to pee. And who follows? Wyatt. And what does he do? Squats to pee.
Oops. I am now trying to teach Wyatt how to hold his pee pee and stand to pee. Needless to say they are very confused. The neighbors are probably wondering what the heck I am doing because all they hear is me hollering:
“Tiggy squat to pee!”
“Wyatt stand to pee!”
I know I shouldn’t wish for it…but I do think it is awfully funny seeing these two try to out-do each other by peeing on the grass!!

Walkers to Talkers...
If last July I had 2 walkers in the house - this July I have 2 talkers in the house. The tots are really doing very well with their "verbal skills" which may be something that I wish didn't happen soooo quickly once they begin really verbalizing their opinion! :-)
They can put little sentences together now. I often hear the following phrases from both of them.
Wyatt calls Teagan by the following names:
Teagan calls Wyatt by the following names:
Teagan surprises me almost every day with new words and thoughts. The other day she found her very first pair of "real shoes" that we got for her when she started walking (they were in a drawer with some other items meant for storage). If you saw them, they are an adorable pair of pink leather shoes that featured a "squeeker" so every time she took a step she squeeked. We liked it because we knew where she was in the house. Well this time when she found them she went to put them on and said: "Too small Mommy. Shoes too small". But none the less she shoved just one of her now size 6 1/2 foot into her size 4 shoe and begin to walk around...and they squeeked.
Well she was DELIGHTED!! So she kept stomping on that foot squeeking. She immediately sat back down to put the other shoe on...but when she stood up to make it squeek - it didn't make any noise. She looked at me and said: "No make noise Mommy" with her hands up like she was asking a question. I told her they were broke. She replied with "Yeah, its broke."
They are also very much getting the concept of "where" something is. They will walk around the house and ask "Where are you?" of one another.
They now can say:
The other day I was in the bathroom with Teagan as she was going potty and Wyatt came running down the hall (you can hear his little feet pitter patter down the hall so you know he is coming) and busts into the bathroom saying "Max! Max!" (Max is his cousin) So I replied with the inevitable question: Where is Max? I am thinking did my sister stop by for something? Did I not hear the doorbell?
I finish up with Teagan and she is yammering about "M,M Mommy. My want M,M." and Wyatt is going on and on: "Max here. Max here" We all head down the hall towards the kitchen and Wyatt is saying to me: "Come on Mommy, Come on." At this point I hand Teagan a yellow M&M...then I say "Where is Max?"And he leads me to the family room where he points to a framed picture and says: "Right here Mommy. Max." Oh right - there is Max - in the picture. Duh Mommy.
The other day we were headed to the park in the stroller and it was in the morning around 9:30 am. As we were walking Wyatt said: "Look Mommy! Moon." And I said: "Where is it?" Thinking to myself huh? Moon? And he said: "Very far." Then he puts his hands up and towards to the moon and says: "Reach...." How cute is that? So I told him to keep reaching...
This was us in the pool the other day and Wyatt decides to help his sister cool down by dumping water on her. Very nice of him wasn't it? To think of her that way? So thoughtful these two!!
Their vocabulary is expansive. They will often says words to me that I had no idea they knew. The other day we were in the pool and they heard something. And they looked at me with wide eyes. Wyatt said to me: "Listen Mommy." And I looked at him and stopped what I was doing. Then I heard it....and Wyatt said to me: "Wood pecker Mommy." How did they know that? Must be the Nanny!! :-)
They can put little sentences together now. I often hear the following phrases from both of them.
I'll get it.
My Watch Show.
My some ice cream.
My some ice cream too.
There you go.
Need Help Mommy.
My all done potty.
This my helmut.
See you soon.
Thats my car. Or thats my blankie. Or that my WHATEVER (because it is always something one has that the other wants!)
Uh-oh - broke.
My get down or my get up.
No - that my cup.
Wyatt - wake up! (Teagan is the first up or the last to sleep - but she always tries to wake up Wyatt)
Go Night Night.
Tiggy Likes (insert whatever)
Funny.
Tickle - Tickle (followed by them trying to tickle you)
Light on please. Can't see. (usually Wyatt will turn out the light while Teagan is on the potty!)
I see (whatever)
Wyatt calls Teagan by the following names:
Tiggy (sounds like Teegi)
Teagan May (sounds like Te'gn May)
T.May (actually sounds like T.May!)
Teagan calls Wyatt by the following names:
Wyatt (sounds like Why-it)
Wyatt Clinton (sounds like Why-it Kin-ton)
Brother (sounds like Bra-der)

I had an actual conversation with my two year old little girl. I am thrilled. Major milestone for a first time parent.
They are also very much getting the concept of "where" something is. They will walk around the house and ask "Where are you?" of one another.
They now can say:
Over there
Right here
Down there
Up high
Very far
when you ask them where something is.

The other favorite that drives their Daddy nuts is to dump water outside the pool!

Meet the Griswolds
This is a funny picture. The kids LOVE sunglasses. Every time we get in the car they start asking for our glasses: "Glashes...want glashes...." So I recently got them a pair of their very own sunglasses. Their nanny was taking them for a walk the other morning (before it hit 107 degrees!) and got them all ready. When I saw this - I had to get it on film!
Meet Clark and Ellen Griswold!
End of diapers near??? Hope so! Teagan has decided that she is ready to potty train. She has been going on the potty for about a month now. She makes it to the potty about half the time throughout the day. Not even trying to potty train her for the night time. We enjoy our 12 hours of sleeping silence too much right now! So she can continue to wear a diaper or a pull up at night till she is in 3rd grade for all I care!
Is Wyatt potty training you ask....? Not even close! Maybe in another year we will give him a shot. But in the meantime...it will cut down on diapers if I can get her potty trained. This is about a one week supply of diapers. We still go through about 10 - 12 diapers a day, plus we use overnight diapers and swim diapers daily.

New Video & Photos
This was taken in February. It was in the middle of winter - but I love the shot of the two of them. Every day we would make the "Journey" (believe me it was a journey getting these two all bundled up in winter gear!) to the mailbox across the street to get the mail. Sad to say...but sometimes this was our big outing for the day! This photo is from April when we had that very warm spell that lasted for a couple of days. It got cold again, but it was nice to be warm for a couple of days.
Wyatt says "Whew. I need a snack already!"
Happy Mothers Day! These are photos from Mothers Day.
Teagan very rarely lets me put a bow in her hair. I usually have to put it back in several times, and give up the fight after 1/2 an hour. But it is oh so cute when it is in!How cute are they?!
Here is Wyatt riding a Razor at his cousin's house.
This is video taken the day of their birthday party...after everyone had left! I feel very badly that I didn't get footage of the actual party, but as usual, there is a lot going on!

Much Love
Travis and I traveled to the Bay Area this last weekend to support our friends Dan and Jodi during a time that could only be described as a parents worst nightmare. They lost one of their twin boys unexpectedly on July 5th. Matteo Tate Martino was just about to turn 18 months old. Jodi’s blog “Martino Madness” is linked off our blog, in the left side navigation of this page.
It is an unspeakable tragedy, that no one should ever have to endure. This tragic loss has definitely changed our lives, and has changed how we go about our daily lives. We look at things a lot differently, our priorities have shifted, we take time to appreciate each other and our children on a daily basis. Little Matteo has impacted our lives in such a positive way…he has helped us remember what is important.
As Jodi so eloquently wrote in a letter to Matteo…
Matt, I want you to know your precious little soul has touched so many people. You have impacted more people in one week than I could EVER hope to impact in my lifetime. Your daddy and I have received so many wonderful letters from people we know and people we don’t know. We have had so many conversations this week about what people have learned from you. Because of you, more mommies and daddies are spending extra time with their sweet babies... more hugs are being given… more kind words are being exchanged… priorities are changing... and a deeper sense of understanding and patience is spreading around the globe like wildfire. Such an amazing feat for a young little man. And for that, I am an incredibly proud mommy.
And so I post on our blog to remind you never take a day for granted - live life every day - love everyone around you. It is a tired old expression, but oh so true…
Much love Matteo.

Two Years Old
Happy Birthday
Whew!
We did it!! We did it!!
Teagan and Wyatt just turned two years old. Really? Does it go by that fast? Before we know it...they will be wanting to get their driver's license!
Here are their new stats:
Wyatt
38 1/2" Tall (Grew 4 1/2 Inches in 6 Months) 100 % (off the charts!)
31 lbs 6 oz (Gained 5 Pounds in 6 Months) 90 %
Teagan
35 1/2" Tall (Grew 2 1/2 Inches in 6Months) 90 %
28lbs 8 oz (Gained 3 1/2 Pounds in 6 Months) 75 %
Both the tots are doing very well. We have nothing to complain about. Both are healthy (and mostly happy!) little toddlers that are doing everything that toddlers should be doing.
I also promise to update on a regular basis. No more 6 month black outs. So check back!
