Summer 2010

It has been a crazy summer - I guess that is how all summers are going to be from here on out - or life in general for that matter! Here are a couple of updates...as I try to play catch up almost at the end of summer!

Wyatt is such a handful. I joke he is going to be my E.R. (Emergency Room) kid. So far this year he has...

~ Been sick for most of the year
~ Had between 6-7 ear infections (I have actually lost track!)
~ One ER trip for a busted lip that required 7 stitches
~ One 24 hour hospital stay due to severe sickness and dehydration
~ Another fall that resulted in a cracked open lip and a dead front tooth that is now grey
~ One very angry hornet sting when Wyatt disturbed their nest

But at the same time he is such a little love bug. Wyatt has a thing for sleeping with us...every night he tries to sneak in our room around 2:00 am because he hates sleeping alone. He has stopped coming to my side because I will just quietly walk him back to his room and tuck him in. Now he goes to his Daddy's side and that *usually* does the trick. He loves to snuggle and burrow right up against me or his Daddy.

He is also quite the funny little kid. He always makes silly faces, puts his clothes on his head, jokes around. He is also the first to introduce himself and his sister. He is not shy and loves to meet new people. He says: "My name is Wyatt and this is my sister Teagan. And that is my Mom and that is my Dad" He is also quite the "rough house" kid. Wyatt loves to tackle you, take you down, jump all over you - he is WWF all the way.

Teagan is proving to be very different than Wyatt. She does get sick, but she has a much stronger constitution. It seems like if there is any type of cold within one block of Wyatt he will catch it - but Teagan just doesn't get as sick that easily. She did get very sick in May when they were both sick - but not as bad.

When it comes to bedtime...Teagan will fight it. The girl will stay up till 10:00 at night if she can! She fights sleep and thinks of any excuse to come out of her room: we forgot to clean up the playroom Mommy, I have a tummy ache Mommy, I want some water Mommy...and on and on it goes. She usually gives up and passes out around...nearly 10:00 pm some nights. (I think once she starts preschool she will be more tired though.) But once she is asleep - she is asleep! Teagan NEVER gets out of bed. NEVER. So that is nice. It seems like once we finally get her to sleep then we start dealing with Wyatt getting up...! To all our friends and family past this stage - to all our friends and family no where near this stage: Be Grateful. Sleep is wonderful.

Teagan is also my shadow. She loves to follow me around and be my little helper. She is totally into helping me cook, doing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning. Whatever it is I am doing, she wants to be there and be a part of it. I joke with Travis: Wyatt has none of my D.N.A and Teagan has none of his D.N.A. They are total "mini-me" versions of us.

Highlights of our summer:
~ They turned 3 years old in June
~ They both had their first dentist visit that went great! Both got a great report card - no one cried - no one was scared - it was a dream visit for them and Mommy.
~ We went to Tahoe for a couple of overnight trips and had a great time!
~ We went to G.G's house in San Carlos for some friends birthday parties
~ We went to Grandma and Grandpa's Ranch for a fun family weekend
~ We have had lots of friends over for swimming pool fun!
~ We are exploring all there is to do now that we are "big kids" like Funderland, Sky Zone and more!

Karma....

We recently experienced a little bit of karma in the Goodrich household. I use this word with heavy emphasis, like I was the defendants attorney; allegedly, when I was a child my sister and I flushed a Barbie doll down the toilet. The Barbie doll got lodged somewhere in the toilet causing my Mom and Dad to pull if off and fish out said Barbie doll...then put the toilet back.

Well, I recently got to experience this as a parent. I am guessing due to karma!

Yes, this is our toilet, on the front lawn with the plumber's truck in the background. Teagan and Wyatt got the brilliant idea that their Nemo bath squirty toy needed to "go back to the ocean to be with his family." So they flushed him down the toilet. Very similar to the actual Nemo movie they had just watched. Very sweet of them wasn't it? The only problem: it got lodged in the back of the toilet and the plumber had to take the toilet off, fish out Nemo, and re-seal the toilet back to the bathroom floor. All for the low, low, price of a couple of hundred bucks. Thanks guys.

The irony of it was too: the plumber spent over an hour trying to "free Nemo" and couldn't get him out of the toilet. Luckily when my Mom got here she got Nemo out (due to her prior experience I assume!) within 3 minutes. Great...now she has two on me!!

3 Years Old!!

Whew.

3 Years old. Really?

We have been busy enjoying summer. I am not sure what we are so busy doing - but it seems like as the 4th of July comes and goes that signals the "half way mark" of summer to me - and I feel as if I need to make sure we enjoy summer because it is almost over! Weird right?

The kids had their three year "well baby" check up yesterday and both kids are doing great. The Doctor commented on how advanced their verbal/language abilities are. He also commented on how Wyatt looks like a 4 year old. And of course we are going to have to get Teagan in to see a Dentist soon because of her thumb sucking habit...but I am hopeful it is manageable.

Here are their stats:

Wyatt
34 Lbs = 75%
40 Inches = 90%

Teagan
31 1/2 Lbs = 50%
37 1/2 Inches = 50%

The kids love all things tech: cell phones, regular phones, iPhones, Flip videos, remote controls, iPods, etc etc. They take to technlogy like a duck to water. It is super easy for them to pick up. They are three years old calling their Grandmas on the phone to say hi - or ask if they can come over to play.

So yesterday I was in the middle of doing something and they got ahold of the iPod and figured out how to get it on and here is what you have: rockin' out!

Teagan got so dizzy that she looked like Drunk Tiggy....

Little People

This was Wyatt in May of 2008 when he was about 11 months old. He was just learning to pull himself up and stand while holding onto something. I guess he was looking for a way out...
And here he is (with Teagan his partner-in-crime!) 2 years later at almost three years old. This time he can actually climb onto the window but he can't get the window open. In a couple of years I will be blogging that he can now open the window - and then in several years I will be blogging that not only can he open the window - he can let himself out to sneak out at night!!
He is turning into quiet the little character our boy Wyatt. The other day we were headed out for a playdate at some friends house and (as usual) we were running a little late. Teagan was dressed already because she always gets herself dressed in the mornings in one of her favorite outfits that she has in rotation. I was trying to get Wyatt dressed without Teagan's help - because you see not only is she in charge of what she wears - but she likes to get Wyatt dressed too - she will pick out outfits for him and say: "Wear this - it matches!" So I laid out clothes for him and he promptly declared: "I can do it." To which I replied: "OK - get dressed and Mommy is going to get herself dressed..."
Well he came around the corner and this is how he dressed himself. Shorts are on his head. His shirt is upside down and where his arm-holes are his legs have gone through! At least he got the shoes on the right feet!!! Gotta give him credit for style points and the shoes.

Teagan and Wyatt really enjoyed their time at Playschool this Spring. They recently had their last day and will be starting preschool in the Fall. They are just turning into such little people. I love it. We can have all sorts of conversations now...most of them center around the word "WHY?" If you are ever at a loss for what to say, or have a pregnant pause in a conversation with someone, or just want to keep conversation going; let me tell you the word "WHY" will keep it going. That is a favorite around our household.
Too cute right?! This is Teagan and Wyatt enjoying a bubble tubby with Daddy and making "Chef's Hats" out of bubbles.
We enjoyed a sick free 30 days in the month of May. All to come to a screching hault in June. Yesterday Wyatt got diagnosed with a double ear infection, Teagan has a sinus infection and Mommy has a sinus infection. Daddy is staying strong and so far (KNOCK ON WOOD!) has not gotten sick. And then this morning Wyatt started throwing up. Lovely. It is going to be a long weekend but I am hopefull this will be our last round of sickness before the kids start preschool...because I know they will be sick again once they start school. We have had a rough year with colds!
