32 weeks and counting

Well, I have made it to 32 weeks. So far so good for a twin pregnancy!

We went up to CPMC today for our “growth scan” where they measure the progress of the babies. Everything is going great with them. Baby A now weighs 4 lbs 5 oz. She is measuring on the larger size for a twin. This is the girl…so clearly she is enjoying all the milkshakes I have been indulging in lately along with me! Our Baby B (the boy) is weighing in at 3lbs 12 oz. So he is a little behind his sister. Unfortunately, each week we progress, he continues to fall behind her in weight gain. This is not a major concern yet….but it can turn out to be. We have to go back in two weeks to check his progress, but the specialist that we met with today said if there gets to be too much of a difference between the two of them, they will schedule a c-section. He said not to expect to make it to the 36 week mark – he thinks it will be more like 34 or 35 we eks. Eeekkk! Getting close. So we are doing all that we can now to properly prepare. Since they may be a little early – I will be getting a special steroid shot to try and prepare their little lungs for life outside the womb. The Dr. did want to be sure that we are preparing ourselves as well for the reality that they may have to spend some time in the NICU. So we will see. But I am trying to remain optimistic and be positive that it will be a short stay.

Things with me are great. I have gained 43 pounds in total. Which almost matches my girth of 42” around! I am so big it is funny. I walk past a mirror and take a second look. I wonder whose pudgy face it is starting back at me in the bathroom! J But it makes sense because I have over 8 lbs of baby in me and my body thinks it is more like 40 wee ks ins tead of 32 weeks. Also, even though I am getting at least 3 braxton hicks contractions an hour these days…my cervix is still in lock down mode.

So I am here at home – on house arrest – not allowed to leave the Bay Area – not allowed to do much of anything. I am just finalizing the babies room and trying to be mellow. Talk about watching paint dry…I am just trying to keep these buns in the oven for at least another three weeks. J
